Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. Members stage approximately 150,000 service projects and raise nearly $340 million every year for communities, families and projects. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.
The 2026 goal for Kiwanis International Children's Fund is to raise $125,000 - to support 55,000 children - through the Kiwanis Day of Giving on February 25, 2026!

2026 Atchison After School Club - Connecting Youth and Community
The Atchison After School Club (formerly the Boys & Girls Club) serves the children and youth of Atchison.
Each year, students who attend the Atchison After School Club participate in an Art Exhibition showcasing artwork they create during their time at the club. This event not only allows students to express themselves creatively, but also builds confidence, pride, and a sense of accomplishment as they share their work with the community.
2026 Atchison County Fair
The theme for this year's fair will be "Harvesting Memories for 250 Years." Donations have made possible the replacement of the goat/sheep pens and upgraded electric service in the beef barn. The Fair Association continues to present fun and enjoyable activities for everyone!

The sponsorship fee helps to pay for the operating costs of the baseball program which inlcude baseballs, bats, batting helmets, catchers mitts, masks, shin guards, chest protectors, etc.
2026 Court Appoint Special Advocates
First Judicial District CASA Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Our agency provides three main programs for children and families in Atchison and Leavenworth Counties including the Child Advocacy Center (CAC), Child Exchange and Visitation Center (CEVC), and trained Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteers to advocate for children in our Judicial District. Additionally, CASA facilitates three classes available to the community including General Responsibilities As Separating Parents (GRASP), Parenting in the Twenty-First Century and a Love and Logic based Parenting Class.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA): Recruits, trains and certifies average citizen volunteers to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the court system. Considered the eyes and ears of the Judge. Volunteers advocate for the best interest of the child while ensuring the child is safe. CASA Volunteers are sensitive to the child’s sense of time and work tirelessly to achieve a permanent or “forever home” for children.
2026 Atchison Fire Department / National Fire Safety Council
The Atchison Fire Department partners with the National Fire Safety Council to provide important safety information for the community regarding smoke alarms, home escape plans, cooking safety, and stop, drop, and roll.
The National Fire Safety Council provides local fire departments with the most comprehensive resource of fire safety educational materials in the world. The NFSC also developed the FirePup educational safety program.
2026 Amelia Earhart Festival
The annual festival presents downtown music, food and crafts fair, star-filled outdoor concert, children’s activities, awards and honors, Earhart research and literature, music on the beautiful Riverfront, aerobatic performances and the grandest of all finalés — the “Concert in the Sky” fireworks show.

2026 Atchison Child Care Association
Atchison Child Care Association provides daycare and before/after school care for children. The 2026 Chili and Soup Supper project will support construction of a School Age "Tree House" Play Structure for the playground.
2026 International Forest of Friendship
The Intenational Forest of Friendship was established in 1976 as a bicentennial project by the City of Atchison and The Ninety-Nines Inc., The International Organization of Women Pilots. Each September, new honorees are inducted into the Forest with a stone in the walkway that winds through trees representing all 50 states and over 35 countries.
Activties for adults and children occur in the Forest to increase knowledge and appreciation of the contributions of women pilots to the field of aviation.

“Red, White & BOO” Theme to Kick Off a Day of Spooktacular Fun Downtown
The Atchison Kiwanis Club and the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce are thrilled to announce that Johnathan Mize will serve as Grand Marshal for this year’s Atchison Kiwanis Halloween Parade, taking place Saturday, October 25, 2025. This year’s theme, “Red, White & BOO,” celebrates both Halloween spirit and patriotic pride as we look ahead to America’s 250th birthday in 2026.
Festivities will fill downtown Atchison throughout the day, creating a family-friendly celebration for residents and visitors alike. Businesses, organizations, families, and schools are encouraged to decorate floats, wear their best costumes, and show off their creative red, white, and spooky spirit!

The parade will feature floats, marching bands, community groups, and costumed characters making their way through downtown Atchison. This year’s "Red, White & BOO" theme ties together our spooky season with a celebration of our nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, and we’re honored to have Jonathan Mize lead the parade.

Atchison Jazz Express continues the tradition of providing live jazz and Big Band era music. Performing in Atchison and the surrounding area of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri, AJE reaches a total audience in the hundreds through the year.
Atchison Jazz Express helps to fund scholarships for high school seniors who are furthering their musical education. AJE has provided over twenty scholarships to deserving students.

Since its inception in 1992, the Honor Band of America has earned a national reputation as one of the nation's finest student concert
honor bands.
With the opportunity to rehearse and perform with renowned conductors and world-class guest artists, to premiere commissioned works for concert band, and perform for a "dream audience" of outstanding high school musicians and educators from across the country, the Honor Band of America is a "must" for the finest young musicians. The Honor Band has received international accolades, with a performance at the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles and concert tours of Europe and Japan.
Honor Band of America members have hailed from across the nation, from band programs large and small. Today, many Honor Band of America alumni perform in professional symphonies and top military bands. Others are teaching music in schools and colleges nationwide, performing professionally, completing a wide variety of college degrees, and are embarking on illustrious and diverse careers that span the spectrum of business and professional enterprise.
On February 25 and 26, Kiwanians came together to raise US$186,000. We surpassed our goal of $100,000 — and it will help Kiwanis reach more than 82,000 kids around the world.

2025 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Kansas Athletes
Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® is an opportunity for schools pre-K through university level to intentionally promote meaningful social inclusion. This is accomplished by bringing together students with and without intellectual disabilities to create accepting school environments, utilizing three interconnected components: Special Olympics Unified Sports®, inclusive youth leadership, and whole school engagement. There are currently over 7,600 Unified Champion Schools in 49 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The Special Olympics Kansas UCS program is in it’s 13th year and is active on nearly 50 campuses state-wide.

2024 Atchison Jazz Express
The Atchison Jazz Express is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to continuing the life and legacy of jazz and swing music to the next generation of performers.
For more than a decade The Atchison Jazz Express has awarded scholarships to deserving high school seniors who are graduating and pursuing vocal and/or instrumental music performance at an institute of higher learning. To date, The Atchison Jazz Express has awarded more than $10,000 to said graduates.
The group, founded in 2012, is made up of approximately 18 amateur and professional musicians from Atchison and the surrounding region. They perform approximately 10 public and private concerts every year, highlighted by their Spring Scholarship Concert, held annually every April.
